RIES Vintage 1930's Large Fomat Wood Tripod Swivel/Tilt, Extensions

  

Rare and sought-after, this fabulous vintage 1930's antique Ries No. 501 professional large format adjustable tripod is in great condition and fully functional. The leg inserts/extenders have spikes, the wide camera base is fully adjustable (360 swivel, tilt etc) and all the controls work, including the locking telescopic braces for the legs.

All the components are heavy-duty and this tripod is built to hold the largest of cameras. We sent this unit to Reis in about 2012 for repairs, but one issue we are still having is one of the locking bands on the leg extensions is temperamental, I believe that the contact point of the screw lock is worn more than the others. We are able to shim it. We were using it for old process photography with a large and heavy box camera. Please see photos for condition, cosmetically there is the usual wear and tear, chipped and peeling paint, the hardwood finish is worn in places, there's some corrosion on the steel components and a normal amount of pitting on the exposed metal, and the metal on metal sliders and tubes should be cleaned and lubricated.

This unit is old but great, and is ready to rock in the field, or is perfect for a full restoration. These tripods are the best of the best, and this is one of the good ones!
