We offer for your consideration this vintage Ries tripod. Ries has been making tripods and photographic equipment since the first world war (1915). The Ries brothers photo documented the war using equipment of their own design and manufacture. They became well known in the Hollywood movie industry at its very beginnings and set up shop in Hollywood. The company is still in business, and has relocated to Bremerton, in the state of Washington.
This tripod may date to the 1950/60s when the company was still based in Hollywood. The Leg portion of this tripod looks very similar, in design, to one the company produced for Stoddart Aircraft Radio Company, in 1963. The Tilt-Head is a cast aluminum with a matte black finish. The head also features two axis bubble levels. The legs have leg angle adjustment locking mechanisms. The legs are wood (tonewood) typically rock hard Maple. The legs extensions are double ended, spiked at one end, rubber foots at the other end. All the adjustments on the tilt-head work smoothly with no binding.
