Antique vintage telescopic wooden oak camera tripod. Up for sale is my antique (late 19th / early 20th century) oak telescopic folding tripod, which I have been using with my Mamiyaflex TLR camera (not included and only for illustrative purposes). This tripod could be used for anything with a standard tripod mount such as a camera, cinecamera or telescope. It comprises of three wooden legs, each made up of three sections. The lower sections each have spikes which are used to locate the tripod of on soft ground such as turf.
The lower sections slide into the middle pieces and are held in place by screws which either widen or tighten the middle sections. The middle sections in turn fold upwards by means of a metal catch mechanism which lock into place when the legs are extended. All the spikes, catches and nuts etc are present. The legs have some wear from being used (scratches to the varnish) but I think this gives this item extra character. Each leg measures around 49" (125cm) long which gives a maximum useable height when splayed of around 50" (127cm) from the floor to the top of the tripod head. When the lower sections are not extended, the intermediate maximum useable height is around 34 (86cm). The tripod folds away for storage with a length of around 19.5 (49.5cm). The tripod head is a chromed ball head (made in Germany) and is attached to the underside of the plate with a brass wingnut.
It turns 360 degrees and allows you to tilt the camera in to whatever angle you need at the time. The fixtures are a mixture of brass and painted metal and I believe the frame is oak. The fixtures all move freely and lock into place tightly.
The tripod looks really cool and would be a perfect match for anyone with a vintage camera. These tripods are also converted to be used as floor lamps. Considering its age, all the bits and pieces are present and the item is in vintage used condition. I haven't gone to the trouble of polishing it up as I think it looks fantastic as it is and the patina / wear gives it the original vintage look that I think suits it best. If you wanted to, I'm sure you could polish the wood and paint/polish the fixtures if that's the look you'd prefer.
