At least one user found it superior to other inexpensive vintage telescopes search: First light for Jason 313 - and it's a winner! Note that the telescope is held in a C-clamp.
This is important because this type of clamp can easily be adapted to a variety of antique telescopes without drilling holes. Rubber plumbing adapters cut to the correct size provide stable mounting when positioned inside the clamp (see images).
In my view this is a sturdy well designed tripod. The wing nuts that set the legs at any desired spread are solid but secondary to the metal tray between the legs which creates a very stable platform. The tray light may even work. The tripod height is adjustable and also set using wing nuts.
The legs can easily be detached and collapsed for transport. A large telescope cannot be held by a single person and must be mounted in some way to reach its full capability.Unfortunately, authentic antique telescope tripods are expensive, difficult to find, and generally hold other antique telescopes. This vintage tripod is a reasonable alternative. Be sure to examine the images as they form an important part of the description.
